HS code for clothing
Clothing is split across two chapters before anything else: knitted garments go to Chapter 61 and woven garments to Chapter 62. Then the type of garment and whether it is men's or women's pick the heading.

US: USITC HTS Revision 21 (2026) · UK and EU checked 2026-10-27 · A starting point for all clothing. It finds the four-digit heading; where we have a full guide, it takes you there for the exact code. Worn second-hand clothing in bulk is heading 6309 instead.
How to tell
Some headings exist only in the knitted chapter. T-shirts, sweaters and hoodies, and socks are knitted by nature, so there is no woven version of those headings.
How to tell
Pull the fabric on the diagonal: knit stretches and springs back, woven barely moves. Denim jeans are woven; jeggings are usually knitted.
How to tell
Garments that button left over right are men's, right over left women's. Garments that cannot be identified either way are classified as women's, except where the heading says otherwise.

General (MFN) duty rates. Lower rates may apply under trade agreements; extra duties may apply depending on the country of origin. UK and EU columns show the rate for the six-digit subheading (most lines where a few specific products differ).
Mistakes to avoid
- Fiber sets the rate inside each heading. Within the same heading, synthetic garments often pay much more than cotton ones in the US. Check the fiber content before you quote a landed price.
- Sets are not always sets. A matching top and trousers sold together are classified separately unless they meet the strict definition of a suit or ensemble.
- Worn clothing in bales goes to 6309 only if it shows signs of wear and is shipped in bulk; used garments sold individually are classified as new ones.
- Baby clothing for children up to 86 cm tall has its own headings, 6111 (knitted) and 6209 (woven).
How this page is checked
- Every code above exists in the current US tariff schedule (Revision 21 (2026)). The build stops if a code disappears.
- Duty rates are read from the official data, not typed by hand: USITC for the US, the UK Trade Tariff for the UK and the EU.
- Ruling quotes are checked word for word against the ruling text, and rulings that are revoked or modified are removed.
